Why are Politics Controversial

Politics are a very controversial topic. It is one of the main topics that will most likely end up an argument, along with topics such as religion and sports. Politics are controversial because everyone has their own beliefs and opinions. When people's opinions come into play, People like to think that their opinion is the only one that is true. If people have very strong opinions on something and someone disagrees things tend to get heated. I know from experience when someone doesn't agree with something I have a certain opinion on, I have to admit, It does bother me (depends on the topic though). Now, I am not the confrontational type, so I don't start arguments ( I try to be open minded) but it does bother me and I am sure it bothers most people. People then get into arguments and make points that have nothing to do with the topic, such as; people tend to say that if someone disagrees that they are stupid and don't know what they are talking about and other very rude things that I won't repeat.

You know there is a problem when there is even a meme about it.
Politics tend to be controversial, because the people in charge (politicians, candidates, etc) all have very different opinions. The presidential candidates for example go from one end of outcomes to the other. They all have similar goals to some extent, like education and foreign relations, but how they want to get there is what they have very different opinions on. Also, the presidential candidates bring up very controversial topics such as abortion, education, wage gap, etc ( which they all have very strong and sometimes differing opinions on). There are so many voters in this country and every single one has an opinion. Opinions lead to hatred and violence (aka pretty much every war the world has had is because of someone's opinions). Hitler does not like Jews, Bam! there is World War II. It is very hard to find some sort of common ground when it comes to opinions. People tend to be closed minded and stubborn when it comes to their beliefs.
People should be more understanding, you do not know why people have the opinions they have, you do not know what someone has experienced. So, instead of immediately verbally attacking them, you should first ask them why they have that opinion.

  1. I agree with you on this one! In the political world and the world in general, arguments are easily set off because people believe in different things. It's crazy how overboard they might get trying to prove their point or try to persuade someone to think the same way they do. If people where more open-minded or more understanding then it wouldn't be as aggressive as it may come off at times. Opinions are opinions for a reason, it's not meant for everyone to agree the same way.
